Did you miss me?
I have had a busy fortnight:
Tuesday
See the annual Tattoo in Basel
Thursday
Fly to the USA
We arrive in the middle of the heat wave and drive to Northampton where we stay at the Hotel Northampton in Northampton, a member of the Historic Hotels of America, lovely place. Northampton feels like time travel: a serene place reminiscent of 50ies movies.
Friday
Visit the Yiddish Book Center:
Lovely ride through beautiful landscapes to Amherst, great farm country, I love the open spaces, nothing is fenced in, to the National Yiddish Book Center. Over a million books have been assembled over the years. Beautiful display, do not miss it on your next trip.
… and see a hare in the evening:
The hare? That is the fellow in the back, blending in with its surroundings, ignoring our presence and blissfully rolling on the lawn. Enjoy a lovely BBQ at friend’s home.
Saturday
Visit the exquisite Smith College Museum of Art in Northampton and admire its current exhibition of L.A. Style Gemini Printmaking
I wonder about the peculiar places men are allocated to relieve themselves:
Enjoy a party in the evening (sorry, no pictures).
Sunday
Buy a new toy:
and some more good food at Paul and Elizabeth’s in Northampton, nice dinner and lovely athmosphere.
Monday
Say farewell to friends and drive to Boston and enjoy a lovely organic meal at the Four Burgers
Mhhh, those French fries!
and spicy hot chocolate at Max Brenner’s in Boylston Street
and stay at the Hotel Boston Park Plaza
Tuesday
Sightseeing, a harbor cruise and power shopping in Boston
USS Constitution and Bunker Hill
Thanks, my friends, for a lovely time in Massachusetts!
Wednesday
Arriving in Basel, Switzerland, and getting settled again
Thursday
Lovely walk with Chica
A rose is a rose is a rose
Friday
Playing with my new toy
Saturday
Another lovely walk and a belated birthday dinner at Kittipon’s in Binningen
And what did you do?

Barbara, the American writer Stephen Crane (Red Badge of Courage) also stayed in Les Trois Rois before heading up to Badenweiler to die, like Chekhov, of consumption. I think Crane had one of the attic rooms at the turn of the century – they probably didn’t want his coughing to disturb the guests. Enjoyed your account – now I want to go and eat there. Enjoyed meeting you again in June.

Glad then, we had a coughfree restaurant!
And thanks for commenting, appreciate your broadening my intellectual horizon!
I think Les Trois Rois owes me a free lunch or dinner for the feedback I get, should I tell them?
Do not forget to call me if you ever want to go on some gastro adventure and would like fun company (!?), actually, I have some places I would like to try …
Have a good week, Barbara
