A short night’s sleep, packing and going for a short breakfast. We want to do some sightseeing before leaving on an endless busride to Bangkok.
Lovely walk to the temple Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahatat along the main road from the bridge lined with lychee trees.
Watch out! On the way to the temple
Beautiful Buddha statue (did you see the beautiful chandeliers!)
Whole galleries of Buddha statues
Top commercial temple (why not? they are not subsidised or receive church tax revenues)
We walk back on the other side of the road, admire the old houses, wow, those round bellied goldfish are pretty, but what do we have there? Sometimes we wish for more than we can stomach.
Got any problems?
A long day mainly spent in the bus follows. Walti made some joke about it: yes, we did go out in Thailand, we visitied one restaurant and eight petrol stations!
Arrive in Bangkok or as it is called in Thai: กรุงเทพฯ Krung Thep, city of angels. in the rush hour (actually rush hour is 24/7), the traffic is immense. We stay at the Millenium Hilton, lovely situation on the river.
Is it not strange how our judgments are sometimes always based on some tiny details or we are caught in a bad moment: checking in takes ages, I find myself wanting several things at once: a shower, some food, a nice glass of red wine, some privacy. So, I start looking around in the lobby and find fault with everything: I do not find it as stylish as described in some guides. Too much, too many styles but I love the hair conditioner by Evelyn & Crabtree in the bathroom!
We have been spoilt in the other hotels so far: free wifi, even in the Portland Hotel. Hiltons’s worldwide policy is to charge for internet use (315 B / hour or 450 B per day).
In the back of the hotel – our most favourite corner!
Speaking of favourite: the bar of The Millenium on the rooftop is spectacular for its panoramic view and a perfect spot for celebrating Morgestraich (more about it in the next post).
Dinner at the Prime Restaurant on 4th floor, we crave red meat. Strange furniture, everything is oversized. We feel like midgets in a giants’ world! Oversized chairs, table and glasses. But we are looking forward to eating a lovely fillet steak accompanied by a glass of red wine (cabernet sauvignon by Mondavi).
To bed after midnight and sleep like a stone.
Have you ever been to Bangkok? Did you like it? What were your funniest adventures? Where did you find the best food? Did you use the public boat services? Share your memories – thank you!
