More from the City of Angels

Wake up at 8, strange waking up in another town with practically the same view, this morning I started looking for the mosque (in Phitsanulok)!

Ten o’clock on the rooftop: we celebrate Morgestraich! Normally, you would get to see and hear something like this, temperatures would be around 5 – 10° C.

Temperature in Bangkok is around 30° C, humidity exceeds a felt 110 %, Rebecca filmed it on someone’s mobile (excuse the poor quality) but we had fun.
Morgestraich somewhat different! Note the makeshift baton! It has ist uses! Wonder why somebody left it on the rooftop?

Morgestraich

Lovely breakfast buffet, we are a little bit time pressed as they close at 10.30 am. Our friends go sightseeing: royal palace and temples.

Rebecca and I set out at 11.30 to go the Amulet Market, as always we find some helpful information in the Lonely Planet guide.

We decide to go by public boat service: Hilton complimentary boat service to River City, walk some to Sri Praya Pier, then wait some and take boat line (yellow flagged boats) no. 9, 14 B for single way, to stop Tha Dang (it is the one for the king’s palace and the emerald Buddha temple). What an experience! We are mesmerized by the dentures and bridges exhibited, obviously they are not meant to be re-used but constitute some sort of amulet as well.

Back at the hotel we meet Walti and John in the lobby and decide to go to that famous shopping mall, Siam Paratong. This time we chose to go by skytrain, National Stadium bound, 30 B.

The shopping mall is a consumer’s dream come true, after two hours a nightmare for me, we concentrate on the food market and stalls in the basement.

At 5 we meet up again and go back to the hotel by Skytrain (not John, he goes by taxi).

A well deserved drink on the rooftop

fireworks

Lovely fireworks, there must be some holiday as the temple bells begin to ring!

Dinner at Zanotti, a lovely Italian restaurant, Fine authentic food, nice wine, fine atmosphere. Taxi roughly 70 B, we overtip with a 100 B bill.

On the way home we come to an accident on the bridge, 6 cars crashed, rather shocking, something you do not expect to see in reality.

Nightcap on rooftop and everything is good again.

To bed at 2 am after watching the bad news on Japan (second explosion in nuclear plant).
