After a hectic and busy week a sensible person would relax and recharge their batteries. But what is a good way to recharge? Yes, more activities: this morning I went to the ceremony of the Swiss Book Prize in the Stadttheater Basel.
Swiss Book Prize 2013
I have known one of the shortlisted authors, Roman Graf, for a long time and it is a pleasure to see his latest book “Niedergang” honoured and him being nominated for the prestigious Swiss Book Prize.
The nominees (from right to left):
Ralph Dutli, Roman Graf, Jonas Lüscher, Jens Steiner, Henriette Vásárhelyi
The jury recognized Jens Steiner’s “Carambole” “as a novel of great poetical force, composing in twelve rounds a rural scene between silence and surreptitious violence” and awarded the prize to him.
I wondered how my young friend must have felt these last weeks, being shortlisted and chosen amongst more than 80 entries is a wonderful achievement. All five authors showed great solidarity towards each other but in the end there is only one winner. Next time, Roman! I will keep my fingers crossed.
Fondation Beyeler: Thomas Schütte „Die Fremden“
In the afternoon I went for a short walk in the gardens of the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen. I was too tired to go inside and see the current exhibition of Thomas Schütte. On my wish list for the coming weeks!
Batteries recharged and now ready for a new week: have a wonderful week!
