After a hectic and busy week a sensible person would relax and recharge their batteries. But what is a good way to recharge? Yes, more activities: this morning I went to the ceremony of the Swiss Book Prize in the Stadttheater Basel.
Swiss Book Prize 2013
I have known one of the shortlisted authors, Roman Graf, for a long time and it is a pleasure to see his latest book “Niedergang” honoured and him being nominated for the prestigious Swiss Book Prize.
The nominees (from right to left):
Ralph Dutli, Roman Graf, Jonas Lüscher, Jens Steiner, Henriette Vásárhelyi
The jury recognized Jens Steiner’s “Carambole” “as a novel of great poetical force, composing in twelve rounds a rural scene between silence and surreptitious violence” and awarded the prize to him.
I wondered how my young friend must have felt these last weeks, being shortlisted and chosen amongst more than 80 entries is a wonderful achievement. All five authors showed great solidarity towards each other but in the end there is only one winner. Next time, Roman! I will keep my fingers crossed.
Fondation Beyeler: Thomas Schütte „Die Fremden“
In the afternoon I went for a short walk in the gardens of the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen. I was too tired to go inside and see the current exhibition of Thomas Schütte. On my wish list for the coming weeks!
Batteries recharged and now ready for a new week: have a wonderful week!

What a wonderful way to recharge:) Wishing you well: let’s Skype soon. Cheers! Kaarina
KDillabough Hi, Kaarina, lovely to see you, yes to Skyping! Heading over to your place now and then off to a massage!
Somehow in this digital world, it’s so easy to forget that the comfortable treats of good books and good art are there to recharge us!
sharonoday Exactly, Sharon! You know when I got up on Sunday morning I was inwardly sighing and yearning for a day of doing absolutely nothing. I would have missed so much: lovely classical music (some Hungarian dance masterfully played by the violinist), inspiration of the creative young authors and awe at the powerful imagery conjured up by Ralph Dutli (he was my favourite for the award) in his tribute to Chaim Soutine. Renewing old friendships, feasting my eyes on the autumn colours in the gardens of the Fondation Beyeler and looking forward to another art exhibition. Life is good.
Indeed it is, Barbara …
Looks like you had fun
Fred McMurray Hi, Fred, fun, certainly but I was ready to fall asleep after lunch! The “art” walk in the Fondation Beyeler gardens recharges me! Thanks for stopping by!
What a great idea…. I could use a recharge about now =) And we have a park nearby with the prettiest waterfalls =)
Hi Barbara, If you enjoy it, that’s a perfect way to relax. You seem to have so much fun. 🙂
So important to make time to relax!!
HeatherJabusch Good morning, Heather! What a lovely picture, I can see you sitting next to the waterfalls (weather permitting, of course)!
HotBlogTips Hi Brian, it did not seem like relaxing first thing in the morning, rather like a chore but turned out to be so invigorating. Amazing how our brains work!
Lynn OConnell Hi Lynn, and a wonderful day to you! Yes, it is important to get out of the hamster wheel, I catch myself spinning and spinning, it is vital to do the unexpected thing ever so often. Happy Halloween!
