Fruits de mer in Alsace

A French Affair

Away this weekend at Degustha, le salon vins et gastronomie, now in its 24th year in nearby Barthenheim, Alsace, scouting new delicacies, vanilla pods, chocolate, honey, homemade woodoven baked bread, cheese, foie gras …

I remember the early years when the exhibition took place in Hagenthal, a rather rural event in the countryside with only a few producteurs attending. I loved the immediate contact between producer and customer, the knowledge shared and, of course, tasting everything, when consumption of alcoholic beverages was de rigueur and traffic controls fairly uncommon. When Maître Antony, the cheese affineur from Ferrette, was still unknown to a larger public.

And eating in between:

fruits de mer normands

homard bleu

  1. Hi Barbara,

Though I’m not a fan of seafood (can’t keep it down), these look so fresh and ready to cook.

And you are right, I also love the small talk I have with Spanish farmers whenever I go to the weekly farmers market 🙂 So much so that buying a few vegetables usually takes me hours!

You have a simple and refreshing blog.

Wow, Flo, you are fast! And let me tell you a secret: I do not seem to be able to appreciate seafood as much as it would deserve! I had some close encounters with oysters and sea urchins (apart from them sticking in my foot!).
The repeat visit (all in all we went three times) to the salon vins et gastronomies was really fun but also hard work, I am working on a extended post of it. You might want to stay tuned.
And thanks a lot for the lovely compliment ;-).
      Have a lovely day, Barbara

  2. O yea Barbara, trust me to zoom from blog to blog at the speed of sound. And you know that’s still too slow in the blogosphere 😉

I just subscribed to your blog. Don’t want to miss those gastronomic updates! 🙂
