A Day In The Life … A Beautiful Autumn Afternoon

Day #23

Do you feel guilty when you take time off from your busy schedule to do something just for yourself?

Honestly, I have mixed feelings about it but not today. Not after having worked all morning and early afternoon.

Such glorious early autumn weather, freezing mornings with a hint of fog, the sun’s late start slowly heats up the air and begs you to come out and enjoy yourself in the warmth of mid afternoon.

And the trees! Have you seen the change of colours yet?

I met up with a friend, we went into town and changed to the other side of the river Rhein by ferry. No music today as on the last two occasions.

We have temporarily set up restaurants called Buvette in summer along the Kleinbasel shore. I can only recommend visiting them and tasting their food and wine selection.

We walked down towards the one at Dreirosenbrücke and enjoyed some humus together with a glass of white Pinot noir.

The slowly running water of the river Rhein is so soothing and I experienced a feeling like “this is paradise” or “I last felt like this when I played truant”.

The ducks were out in droves and were fed bread by other idle people:

Walking back towards Mittlere Rheinbrücke with the Münster in the background and a green tram crossing the bridge I caught a bus home and feel truly blessed!

Day #23 A typical slow-down-take-it-easy afternoon and feeling so revitalized!

Do you ever take some me time off?

Do you feel guilty when you succumb to your secret wishes?

Or do you truly enjoy yourself and recharge your batteries?

  1. Every day, all day long, no matter what I’m doing, I go slowly and savor the moment and whomever I’m with..I have woods with trails, beaches and a neighborhood to enjoy all the time. Maybe the trick is getting up early to do things outside…or wherever you like to be! I can’t imagine a day not enjoyed like that!

  2. KDillabough If only, Kaarina, you would have enjoyed it so much. Strolling along the river Rhein, watching small boats, water skiers, container ships, other freight ships, the ferries (we have 4 in Basel and when you are here we will use them all!), watching people playing boccia (quite an ambitious crowd there, they play for hours each day), soaking up the autumn sun and trying to preserve it for winter … sheer heaven! Thanks!

  3. BetsyKCross You are blessed, Betsy! Sometimes I get so caught up with whatever I am doing. But today I was keenly aware of each moment and savouring it. Ah, yes, getting up early does the trick, it is getting more difficult now as dawn breaks so much later. I miss my summer when I easily get up at 5 o’clock and get so much done.
Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful week!

  4. JanineRipper Hi Janine! Great idea to take Friday off, yes, it is a luxurious feeling but I am sure you consciously experience your precious time off.
Have a lovely weekend and I enjoy your blogging renaissance (well, so to speak)!
