Viva l’Italia

Are you getting used to winter, to the cold temperatures, a running nose and wearing a ton of cloths?

I have to admit some days are really gorgeous:

Or, are you dreaming of another scenery? Maybe Italy on a warm day, sitting in some coffee bar watching families on their evening stroll and listening to Francesco de Gregori, the famous cantautore, singing Viva l’Italia?

This song came out in 1979 and is still one my favourites, let me share it with you – enjoy:

Time to move on and prepare a dish of lovely pasta, it will take you about 10 minutes to prepare Late Bloomers Salsa, you will envisage yourself dining in an Italian restaurant at the seaside on a balmy summer evening.

Are you enjoying winter and a run in temperatures below zero, coming in from the cold and have some  hot drink?

What do you dream about these days? What is your soul food or music?

  1. Well, we have actually had a pretty mild winter so far; there have been very few days I couldn’t wear short pants….but I won’t rub it in…………..:).

The meal sound fab, I’ll be right over.

I actually dream about food but I do like some good music too; it can transport you in time and place.

    1. @bdorman264 You are welcome to your short pants, Bill, and may I point out that you just did it again. Aaah … where was I? …. got lost with visions of sunshine, beaches and half-clad people.

Do you honestly dream about food? This is great, tell me more about it, please. I dream about dinner tables but the food does not prominently figure in it, the people do.

Take care, and see you at that other place, the kissing place.

      1. @Late_Bloomers Actually it’s more day dreaming as no sooner than I finish a meal I am thinking about what will be good for the next one………..:).

Because of SOPA, I can’t get into my WordPress account as they are shut down for the day. I have a friend who is a politician in Washington who I believe was a co-sponsor of this bill in the House of Representatives. He has seen how the tech/internet community has responded and he can’t drop his co-sponsorship fast enough. It certainly wasn’t something you could just wrap your arms around, huh?

Half clad? I thought the Euros were ok with au naturel………:). Did you know for men and that tubular thing hanging from their body has so much melanin in it, it is almost impossible to get a sunburn there? Now that’s a little known trivia fact that might win you a drink somewhere down the road……………..doh……………..

See how much smarter I can make you?

        1. @bdorman264 Where did you hear that? About the Europeans being ok with au naturel? Maybe one or two generations ago in some countries but I would not advise it.

SOPA – a nice acronym for soap, add opera to it and it is another story.

Interesting fact about male protuberances, I will make sure you get the honours for that!

          Enough smart body parts around!

Have a good day! Done any tribal dances lately?

  2. Our winter has been pretty mild too. I kind of miss the snow and all that goes with it (aside from the constant complaining by everyone else I know ha!). I suspect before too long I will get my fill of it though. Nice recipe!

    1. @laliavoce Lalia, it is -7° C this morning, we are hit by a cold weather front but I prefer it to the warm weather before, now we have glorious sunshine, wonderful sunrises and sunsets and clear blue skies.

I made up that recipe some time ago when a friend asked what to cook for dinner and wanted a different salsa from bolognese or napolitano, not sure of how it would turn out, but it is not bad, is it? Fast and the lemon zest does wonders to offset the anchovies and capers.

  3. Hi Barbara,

I’m sorry to say I have not been enjoying this winter – yet! It’s either been snow-less or too cold to indulge! I hope that changes soon and it will! February is usually a better month for outdoor activities. Now about your salsa… 😉

    1. @Lori Hi Lori,

Quite frankly I like winters in pictures and not so much being exposed to it. I hope that your cold has gone by now. Come February and we will already have glimpses of spring around the corner …

Have you made my salsa yet? Do tell me what you think of it. It is quite challenging with the anchovies, I know many people who do not like them. I adore them, specially on a pizza napoletana with chili flavoured olive oil.

      1. @Late_Bloomers I’m more a fan of olives and capers. Can I leave the anchovies out :p

I don’t mind winter at all – I like it! It’s just this winter I feel like a slouch – looking at it through my large windows and yet not getting out into it. In February it will be better – more snow! 🙂

        1. @Lori By all means, leave out the anchovies, I have another recipe with tuna. Did the link work? Betsy mentioned Chinese ….

I am a summer person, I am more active, up at the break of dawn and also getting more done 😉

  4. The picture is beautiful! I live in mild climate (Birmingham, AL), so I enjoy the winter minus the cold weather through other people’s pictures! The music is fantastic! Thanks for sharing!

    1. @MarthaGiffen Hi Martha, welcome and thanks for stopping by and commenting. Lucky you, living in a mild climate. I could do with winter only in pictures, too! This week has been really cold, it is warmer now but rainy and grey all day. I long for summer.

  5. The recipe was in Chinese! LOL! But I LOVE pasta…hate winter. I do love the slowness of winter. I need the shift to a hibernating-like state. It’s so refreshing! But I don’t like the cold. Maybe I’ll come back and see if the recipe cooperates and then we can try it for dinner. Nothing like pasta (and bread!).

    1. @BetsyKCross Hi, Betsy! Chinese – recipe, it is an Italian recipe! LOL! So sorry, I will check it right away, you are the first to point this out, what could this mean, haha!

Slowness of winter – something to ponder. Agree on pasta, bread, and maybe risotto?

      Thanks!

  6. Like I said, we come at 50 F and we feel cold! And now the temperatures are rising and we won’t “see winters” until end of December! So, yes, I might like a wintry place!

      1. @Late_Bloomers Oh absolutely! But be careful, I might not want to come back ! In about 4 months from now we shall be reaching temperatures of 125 F and 98% humidity!

  7. It is absolutely *freezing* in Vancouver right now, so I definitely look forward to burning hot soup, hot water, sitting by the hot heater… hot anything. =P

Ooh! Thanks for sharing your recipe secrets, Barbara! =) Exciting! =)

    1. @Samantha Bangayan Hi, Sam, and we are drowning in rain and grey skies, not very conductive for productivity. Just came home from an early morning walk with Chica, she enjoyed being blowdried!

Look forward to hearing what you did with that recipe 😉

    1. @Justin Mazza Hi Justin,

Thanks for stopping you, yes, an Italian beach sounds good, but we talk about the same temperatures as in Maryland right now. Think summer and 90° F and we will al be fine!

  8. I’m afraid I’m not enjoying winter as it’s turned into a stinking hot summer here! The week ahead with average 36 degrees celsius here in Oz. So I’m enjoying a lot of cold drinks (mostly water) to keep hydrated.

What am I dreaming about these days – too many things as I’ve had such vivid, amazing dreams since being on this allergy diet!

  10. I am enjoying winter, especially in my warm house in London. I use a lot of olive oil, so I suppose that it is my little corner of Italy/south of France…

    1. @JSJ2020 Haha, Muriel, but you were lucky to inhale some summer not so long ago. Is the state you are in called HIBERNATION? Would not mind that either.

Yes, olive oil or maybe the bouillabaisse?

  11. I am drinking hot tea right now, trying to break a fever which I have had for 3 days, lost my voice, nose is blocked and the list goes on. Nonetheless, my spirits are up and I can’t wait to step out of the house and enjoy the beauty of the city – especially when it is sunny!

    1. @BrowsingRome Hi Diana, so sorry for you, take care, a friend of mine has lost her voice, too, and is forbidden by doctor’s order to speak – this must be horrible. You live in one of the most beautiful towns of the world, cannot wait to visit in spring and gorge on all the wonderful seasonal food! Wishing you tons of sunshine and the return of your health. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day,Barbara
