Trees in my Backyard

Autumn always makes me feel morose, it is the decline in the year’s cycle. Days becoming shorter, nights longer, shadows deepening, temperatures descending, dictating our daily routine.

Over a period of 12 days I took pictures of the trees in my backyard, enjoying the vivid colours and realising at the end that another season is around the corner:

Trees VIII

Trees VII

Trees VI

Trees V

Trees IV

    1. @JanineRipper thanks, Janine, The leaves are now a carpet covering the ground, the colours fading to a dull red and soon we will only have bare trees. But we have the pictures to go back to!

  1. I’m a fan of the season. I love autumn, but am not too crazy about winter, which means very long periods with no sun here in Seattle. Soon it will be nothing but gray and drizzle, but hey it’s conducive to creative work.

    Love the photos. Thanks!

    1. @Craig McBreen Completely biased about this season: love the vivid outburst of colours but hate the decline, those fading leaves on the ground, the chilliness creeping into your body. Seattle, must be a great place to live, but you also get more than your fair share of wetness, do you not? But as you said: conductive to creative work! Any plans then for the upcoming winter? Thanks, Craig, for visiting, welcome any time!

  2. I.Love.Autumn. It’s my favorite time of year, and your photos are gorgeous! But I, like you @Late_Bloomers know that, when those brilliant colours become crispy or soaking wet mush on the ground, winter’s around the corner. And winter, where I live in Canada, seems like it’s 8 months long! So…thanks for the memories:) Cheers! Kaarina

    1. @KDillabough Oy, Kaarina, I would not want winter to last that long. Fortunately, here in Basel, although it is Switzerland, winters last three to four months, but for me as a summer child I am already longing for the long hot days … Ah, you cannot have it all! Thanks so much for visiting (BTW noticed you did not drop the “u” in colour, love you!) and I truly enjoyed reading your posts on the stone piles and the list of CARE. Warmth from Switzerland, Barbara

  3. I have mixed feeling about this season. I love the when the weather is crisp, I love the colours of the leaves. But knowing that winter is just around the corner does not fill me with pleasure. I love the way you captured the light. It is the grey skies and short days that I don’t like.

  4. I love your pictures. For some reason I find them very soothing. As for Autumn, well, it is not as bad as winter. Soon we’ll have to hibernate again!

  5. W hat a riot of colors. Your photos are a great depiction of Autumn colors and changes. Makes me nostalgic for Autumn in England, though not the Winter to come. Living in S. California has its advantages but not much color. Although looking down the canyon, I can see some red and gold on the trees. I used to love this time of year but now, the same as you, I feel more like it’s the decline of another year’s cycle, and that makes me sad.

    1. @spjames.c How I love the English countryside, it simply has a different light, unique! And I remember slightly hangover walks on a rainy day, fat green meadows, sheep grazing …

And winter is another story, you are right. Do you take pictures: would love to see some Californian trees!

  6. Amazing pictures, Barbara! I agree with you completely. Autumn is my least favorite season. I believe it’s the anticipation of winter, which is much worse than the actual season of winter.

I do admit, though, when I lived in Florida, it was missing Autumn that prompted me to move back up north.

Thanks for sharing this with us!

    1. @wonderoftech Thanks, Carolyn, looking out I see no colours, only green conifers, but the days are finally getting longer again! I wish for an app to transpone me to some colourful spot with an average of 30° C, anything in the pipeline?
