It has been a very busy May with many long planned for activities and some rather unexpected events, it has been a month of celebration and mourning.

Remember the movie Four Weddings and a Funeral ? Lovely English comedy, something to watch again on a rainy day, comfortably settled on the sofa, maybe with a nice glass of red wine and some nibbles. Well, it was the other way around for me so far this year. Makes me feel sad.

On the other hand we had two weddings to honour over the same weekend: meet the happy couple from Thailand again, this time bonding in a civil function at the Zivilstandsamt in Binningen .

A touching and very funny ceremony followed by a magnificent reception in the sunny courtyard at the Bottminger Schloss. Lovely Chablis, tasty scallops.

A long way from Thailand

The following day, I hosted a wedding reception for 50 people for my best friends’ daughter and her bridegroom, Manja and Ted.

Picture taken from Facebook (hope, this is ok and I did not break any laws!)

It was a lovely evening, balmy temperatures, great guests from all over the world.

I was so busy I did not take any pictures, the few pictures I took were lousy this evening. Mike, if you read this, could you send me some?

Swiss cheese

A choice of Swiss cheese (there is more than Emmenthaler, you know)

We had
• Hummus and thina with pita triangles
• Salmon mousse with baguette
• Meatballs with homemade ketchup
• Olive and fig tapenade with thyme buschette
• Spicy tomato-peppers-coriander relish
• Dates filled with gorgonzola and mascarapone
• Saffron taboulé
• Spicy Asian nut mixture
• Chicken satay with peanut sauce
• Small Nuernberger sausages

It is amazing how much you can achieve and produce in a short period of time! Recipes on request, simply send me a mail!

How is it possible to fit so many people in such a tiny garden?

Huge thank yous to my mother (at 87!), Patrick, Elvira and Sandra for their invaluable work and support: you were instrumental in creating an unforgettable evening. And thank you for letting me sit down and enjoy a glass of white wine!

Sunday: a very moving Chassene with a lovely bride and happy bridegroom, proud parents and grandmothers. Splendid choir, outstanding flower arrangements (white and purple orchids with black callas).

We wished the couple good luck at Holbeinhof and were reunited again for the wedding party at Dreispitzhalle in the early evening.

Thank you, Manja and Ted, for a memorable day and many happy moments. Bless you and may you have a never ending conversation!
