Winter Fruit Smoothie

Have you still got some oranges left from winter like me? Do not throw them out, use them for your early morning booster!

My last winter fruit that did not look too good went into this smoothie. I was astonished at how much juice the oranges still had left and the banana revealed its inner beauty, added sweetness and maturity hidden by an ugly brown peel outside. Waste not, want not!

Ingredients
1 banana
2 oranges
1 pineapple
pinch of cardamom
pinch of nutmeg
fresh mint leaves
optional: add seeds such as linseed (they even taste better when dry roasted) or chia seeds

Yield: 6 dl

The fresh mint leaves (English and Cologne varieties) from my garden added a touch of spring.

A second portion went into the fridge for tomorrowโ€™s breakfast, I am glad I have the bottles with a twist on lid handy. Accompanied by some almonds it will give me a great start into a new day!

  2. Hi Barbara,
I’ll confess; I’ve never made or drank (ate?) a smoothie! But now that I see you writing about it, I’m tempted! ๐Ÿ™‚
A friend just gave me some cardamom – it smells wonderful! Hmm….. I’ll keep you posted!

      Good morning, Lori!
You might have known it by a different name: fruit juice, I have been making it for years before it became THE power food, so convenient when you have too much fruit at home that risks to go bad, turn it into juice and freeze it in portions.
Cardamom is such a lovely spice, I have to post my recipe for Kulfi, an Indian ice cream with cardamom, almonds and pistachios – you will love it!
      Have a wonderfully sunny day!

      1. Yes, please do! I HAVE juiced before – then we decided to chop the fruit and eat it as we were tossing all that pulp and fibre! So now we chop fruit for breakfast and sprinkle slices of almond, ground flax and sesame and, recently, hemp harts, along with bran buds. I have mine with kefir.
By the way, I’m making (growing?) my first batch of kombucha. Are you familiar with it?

          Hi Lori,
When you process your fruit (if necessary add some liquid to it) in a mixer you will use the whole fruit. I have a 10 year old mixer that perfectly works for this job, even if the industry keeps telling me I need a modern heavy duty mixer.

What exactly are hemp harts? If this is what gives YOU your incredible energy I want some of it as well ๐Ÿ˜‰

You are fermenting green tea? I have never done it, this sounds interesting, keep me posted or are you game for a guest blog?

          Have a lovely Friday, Lori!

          1. Hi Barbara,
I used a juicer back then. Yes, a heavy-duty one would have been better.
I don’t know much about hemp hearts. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ They are not what gives me my energy ๐Ÿ˜‰
Kombucha is all new to me. I tried some that my niece made and loved it. This stuff is supposed to be very good for you! I will keep you posted. My first batch isn’t half ready yet!
            Lori
