The Third Time

What does it feel like when you do something more often than once? Will this exciting feeling of novelty have worn off? What will it be replaced with? A feeling of recognition, of homecoming? What the heck is she talking about? Has she taken a turn for the worse and will she be talking about her sex life? Do not worry, I am talking about my recent visit to one of Europe’s most exciting capitals.   Vienna, getting to know her The first time I went to Vienna was ages ago, in the 70ies, together with my brother. I remember a grey town that...

Under The Weather

I Need Something Lifting! This is my third post in a row about the weather and its influences! I never thought of myself as a person who is so dependent on outer factors, I also never understood why older people always talked about the weather, this sunrise, that sunset, growing plants, birds and whatnot. Life was about relationships, endless discussions on how to change someone’s way of thinking and behaviour (you can tell how old I was at that time, cannot you?)! Life taught me differently, I am the one now constantly talking...

What A Feeling

A tiny, itsy-bitsy feeling of spring Do you remember? Only days ago I was lamenting and yearning for spring and what happens? Here it is: blue skies, nature bursting at all seams and rewarding us for our patience with warmth, colours, happy smiles all around, a full moon and a rejoicing Chica:   High Noon Camelias   Cherry Blossoms   Dogwood Dogwood blossom Full Moon La vita è bella Ok, it may not last but I have learnt my lesson: I will enjoy each and every moment and should the weather change again, I have downloaded a very...

I’ve Been Waiting For So Long

I’ve Been Waiting For So Long

No, this is not a case of love sickness.   I am sick of winter, low hanging clouds, snow and rain, low temperatures – I want light and sun, bright colours, lighter clothes.   Cherry trees in winter (NO, the date was April 3)   I want my energy back, my batteries recharged!   Is there any hope? I want to see new life emerging: buds, flowers, fruit. Dig my hands into moist and rich soil toplant new life and watch it grow.   Glorious sunrise followed by rain Last year the cherry blossoms were out weeks...

What Does A Market Have In Common With Marketing?

What Does A Market Have In Common With Marketing?

Everything is off to a good start: the sun is showing its face for the first time in days, it is freezing cold on this early morning, but there is an air of spring in the air. Saturday: it is my first market in 2013,  Bärlauchmarkt in Basel. I am well prepared and full of anticipation we set out with a new decoration of fresh flowers pots to celebrate spring. In no time the tent is up:   The tent is up and the sun is shining   We only put up one back wall, wise by experience and maybe some foreboding?   The sun takes its leave...

Looking Back … February 2013

Looking Back … February 2013

The last (full) month of winter, sometimes it seems like it drags on and on and on … The same grey skies, fresh fallen snow or grey slosh in the streets, low hanging clouds, the sun hiding and there is ever so little light. Cherry trees on Bruderholz   And just when you think “I cannot take it any longer” (I have noticed that I only say this when I am sure it will end quite soon), the proverbial silver lining will appear. In our region the silver lining is Fasnacht (carnival), a 3 day long festival of colour and music in...
