A Day In The Life Of … Farmer Market in Lörrach
It is one of those perfect days in late summer: the nights are relatively cool, in the early morning the sun is slowly warming up, not to be compared to the searing heat of July and August. What bliss to enjoy a cappuccino outside in front of the market!
Have you noticed how the light has changed? Look at those sunflowers!
Sunflowers basking in the early morning sun
There are not that many farmers on the market on a weekday, it is a more intimate atmosphere and we leisurely stroll from one stand to the other.
The last strawberries sit side by side with early winter vegetable such as parsley roots and leek.
probably my last strawberries this year
I buy some vegetable for my ketchup which is bubbling on the stove (I cook it for about 48 hours!):
carrots, celery and parsley root to go into my ketchup:
This lettuce, radishes and cucumbers will make a lovely summer dish
I just have the perfect salad dressing to go with it: with honey and fresh ginger! Tell me if you would like the recipe.
And I bought some roses as we are invited for dinner tonight:
perfect fragrance roses
Day 5: A happy day!
Good morning @Lori! There is an another advantage to those roses: they are edible! I tried some rose gelée (jelly) last year but instead of staying in the middle the blossoms sank to the bottom of the jar - not nice. I should have used more agar-agar but then it is so thick. You cannot win them all!
The recipe for the salad dressing will follow, I like your asking for it, thanks!
Nothing bad about wild flowers, is there? Unless it is morning glory taking over your whole garden!
I will definitely let livefyre know about its not working properly. It did it again!
I would like the recipe! So nice to have a Market so close and to pick up flowers for a dinner invitation! Those are such beautiful roses!
I so love the sunflowers out at this time of year. We really need to plant some for next summer. By nwo the only things blossoming in our yard are the wild flowers!
@KDillabough Hi, Kaarina, yet it is. The farmers either cut or harvest their produce late the evening before or early in the morning. But you can tell it is the end of the season for the strawberries, they are tasty but lack the sugar of high summer. I made some kind of Eton mess tonight - yummy! Sending sunshine for easy peasy working conditons ...
@Late_Bloomers Thanks Barbara. We lost a full day of working time today, but I am making the best of it. Cleaning out my email inbox. Purging files. And yes!...enjoying a glass of wine. Cheers! Kaarina
